Frequently Asked Questions

Your guide to understanding and using Honeycrisp to automate your Mac.

What is Honeycrisp?

Honeycrisp is a powerful tool that connects large language models (LLMs) like Claude and Gemini to your Mac, enabling them to control applications, automate tasks, and access local data securely. It acts as a bridge, translating natural language requests into actions on your computer.

What are the system requirements?

Honeycrisp requires macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later, 4 GB RAM, and an internet connection. It works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

For complete details including hardware recommendations, software dependencies, and troubleshooting, see our System Requirements page.

How does it work?

Honeycrisp provides a server that your AI assistant can talk to. When you ask your assistant to do something on your Mac, it sends a request to the Honeycrisp server. The server then generates AppleScript—a scripting language for macOS—and sends it back.

You can run this script manually by copying it into the Script Editor app, or for a seamless experience, you can install the Honeycrisp Executor, a lightweight helper that runs on your Mac and executes the scripts automatically.

Is it safe and private?

Yes. Your privacy and security are paramount. Here's why you can trust Honeycrisp:

  • Local First: All actions are executed directly on your Mac. No data is sent to the cloud unless you explicitly ask it to.
  • You're in Control: macOS will always ask for your permission before allowing Honeycrisp to control a new application for the first time. You can review and revoke these permissions at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

What can I do with it?

Honeycrisp can automate a wide range of tasks on your Mac. Here are just a few examples:

  • Create notes, reminders, and calendar events
  • Manage your to-do list in Reminders
  • Create documents in Pages and presentations in Keynote
  • Summarize articles and websites

How do I get started?

There are two ways to use Honeycrisp:

Manual Mode (No Install)

  1. Generate a connection link on the Home page.
  2. Add the link to your AI app (e.g., Claude, Gemini).
  3. When your AI provides an AppleScript command, copy it.
  4. Open the "Script Editor" application on your Mac, paste the code, and click the "Run" button.

Auto-Execution (Recommended)

  1. Download and install the Honeycrisp Executor. This will install a lightweight helper that runs in the background.
  2. Generate an auto-execution connection link on the Home page.
  3. Add the link to your AI app.
  4. Actions will now run automatically on your Mac.

How do I uninstall it?

To uninstall the Honeycrisp Executor, you can follow the removal instructions on the download page. This typically involves running a command to stop the background service and deleting the ~/.honeycrisp directory from your home folder. You can also revoke any permissions you've granted in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

Troubleshooting

If you're having trouble, here are a few things to try:

  • Restart the Executor: If you have the executor installed, try restarting it. You can find instructions on the download page.
  • Check Permissions: Make sure you've granted any necessary permissions in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  • Check the Logs: The executor keeps a log file at ~/.honeycrisp/executor.log. This file can provide clues about what's going wrong.
  • Check the Status Page: The status page can help you diagnose issues with the server.
